The Sofia Hotel Renovation Project
Originally built in 1926, the Pickwick Hotel has undergone a major renovation, reopening as The Sofia Hotel – retaining its original character while offering a modern sensibility and serene style. It has recently been inducted into the National Trust Historic Hotels of America.
Made popular in the 1920’s, The Sofia is distinguished by its Gothic Revival style, crenellated roof line and terra cotta embellishments. As part of the extensive renovations, existing spaces in the original structure were adapted to create public areas in the hotel to accommodate the operational and guest needs of a modern day hotel without compromising the building’s historic identity.
Anjum Razvi of Razvi Design Studio, Inc. created a relaxing and organic design theme, which includes a natural color palette, nature inspired motifs in the fabrics and carpets, fossil sculptures and photography of nature throughout the property. This theme was adopted to invoke a sense of harmony and balance, to compensate for the hustle and bustle that exists directly outside the hotel.
