The Sofia Hotel – Elevator Cabs, Guest Hallways, Stairwells
The two small elevator cabs, original to the old building, had to stay. The addition of a new, decorative molding encircling these two cabs has helped to enlarge the façade visually. The floor of the elevator cab uses a “Mixed Stones” tile from Imagine Tile which adds to the nature theme as well as detracts from the size of the cab. The planters across from the elevator in the lobby display a cluster of preserved grasses which also provide textural interest.
Unique translucent Capiz shell panels are used in the old windows of the stairwells to allow for the filteration of light while blocking not so pleasant views. Ancient fossils from Morocco adorn the walls of each elevator lobby.
The hallways to the guest rooms are decorated with the most unusual wall sconces which display old photos of the hotel recalling the hotels 1920’s origins.
