#9 Home Office
My client moved into this house two years ago where the previous owner was using a spare bedroom as a home office. She did not like the existing layout or finishes so the office was gutted and a new office was born.
It was very important for my client to face her garden when she sat at the desk so the desk was “floated” into the room oriented towards the garden. However this was also the west side and the sun was a problem in the afternoon. A silhouette blind with a remote was used and as the sun got lower my client could lower the blind from her desk.
Custom-built birch cabinetry with some rounded corners was used for her main work area with a stain that resembles a medium cherry. To create an eclectic mix the desktop used two interesting laminates, a neutral and a green. Additional painted built-in storage was created where the original closet had been.
Recessed lighting was added for both the work area and to highlight the art. The walls are painted a buttery yellow and the carpet is a textured neutral. The walls are adorned with art purchased by my client on her travels. The look is clean, simple and functional with plenty of file drawers, storage and a place for everything needed in the office.
